Description: Violet lives with her mother Hattie, a prostitute, in New Orleans. The year is 1917. She seems touchingly innocent even after her virginity was sold at the age of 12 for a large sum of $400 at that time. After leaving the brothel, she lives with photographer I.J. Belloc for a while. Eventually, Violet reunites with her mother, who also fled the brothel to lead a more "respectable" life. The power of an extremely beautifully shot and, perhaps, somewhat slow film lies in the simultaneous presentation of two points of view. The first is Violets point of view, whose charming and innocent love of life - as it is -is so convincing that the viewer understands that entering a "civilized" society will be her true downfall. And the second is the point of view of the photographer of the Block, for whom both the girl and her surroundings are erotic and artistic.
